Appointments and Fees

what you need to know

The Blue Moon Centre for Wellness, Creativity and Growth and Jen Black, Psychologist, are committed to making services accessible to Tamworth region community members by:

  • keeping service fees below the recommended industry rates
  • accepting various payment options (cash, cheque or direct deposit)
  • offering flexible appointment arrangements including after hours (when available)
  • providing a transparent and fair fee structure.

We provide confidential and compassionate care that is of the best quality. We abide by the Australian Psychological Society and Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) Code of Ethics.

Psychological Services provided by Jennifer Black.

Appointments will ordinarily be 50-75 minutes in duration depending on the service you access. You do not need a referral from your GP to make an appointment. Medicare referrals are not currently being accepted (as of 10 May 2017) and as such, rebates are only accessible if you have private health cover. Please contact your provider directly to confirm your cover and process.

Important: If you Need to Change Your Appointment Time Give us 48 Hours Notice!

We understand sometimes plans change, just leave a message via email, text or telephone). If it is possible, we will try to find another time to reschedule the appointment. In addition, you are responsible for coming to your session on time; if you are late, your appointment will still need to end at the normal, agreed time. As private practitioners, we rely on appointments for our livelihood and business sustainability, so if you cannot give us 48 hours notice you will need to pay 50% of the applicable private fee. If you miss a session without cancelling, or cancel with less than 24 hours notice, our policy is to collect 100% of the session fee (unless we both agree that you were unable to attend due to circumstances beyond your control). We have the right to terminate care for non-payment.

Fees and Rebates

Fees will vary according to which service you access, the time you attend, and the length of your appointment. Please see Service Rates below or contact us for details.

You are responsible for paying at the completion of your session. Payment must be made by cash or cheque, or by direct deposit if arranged prior to commencement of sessions; we are not able to process credit/debit cards as payment. Fees are payable in full at the time of service (excluding third party providers). All accounts not settled on the day will incur an account keeping fee of $15. If accounts are outstanding beyond seven days, no further appointments will be offered in the practice until outstanding accounts are cleared. We have the right to terminate care for non-payment.

A text will be sent prior to the scheduled appointment time requesting you to confirm the appointment by return text. However, this is done as a courtesy. Please note that you are responsible for attending appointments, even when a text confirmation has not been sent. Please contact us to cancel or reschedule. See Cancellation Policy above.

Third party payments: In some instances, your service fees may be fully or partially paid by a third party (e.g. employer, insurer, compensation scheme, NDIS, government agency). If the service is being paid by a third party, funding must be authorised prior to services commencing. Invoices will then be sent to the government or non-government organisation for payment within 7 days. Please note that Medicare rebates cannot be claimed in conjunction with third party payments. Please contact us to discuss this further and to receive a quote for services.

No bulk billing is available at this time.

Wondering what your fees pay for?

In addition to your session time with me (Jen Black) as a Registered Psychologist, I perform out-of-session duties, such as session preparation, record keeping, writing letters to GPs and other treatment providers, scoring assessments, case-management, correspondence with clients, stakeholders and service providers, marketing and promotion, and administrative and other day-to-day professional duties – all for which I do not receive extra payment. Service fees go towards providing for the time spent on these additional duties to ensure you receive a professional and ethical service in accordance with best practice standards. As this is a small private practice, I also incur the costs of renting the counselling and office space, costs of maintaining my registration, mandatory professional development training and clinical supervision every year, paying membership fees for professional associations, clinical resources and literature. I am responsible for paying my own insurances, superannuation, leave and taxes, and am still paying university (HECS) fees for the four years of full-time training I completed to gain the skills and competencies to work as a Psychologist. I also incur lost income when clients cancel or do not attend appointments.

When Equine Professional, Life Coach and Art Therapist, Louise Campbell and I work together to facilitate Equine Assisted Therapy and Personal Development sessions and programs, the costs increase further. Now you have two highly trained and experienced practitioners, a herd of horses to feed and care for, safe and suitable facilities, resources and props, additional insurances and procedural costs, on top of all of the above costs. To make this service as accessible as possible, we both take a “pay cut”. All of our services are well below recommended industry rates (eg. Australian Psychological Society recommended fee for a standard consultation is currently $241 per 46-60 minutes).

Consequently, we rely on the timely payment of service fees to cover our costs and earn a sustainable income, and to enable us to continue providing innovative and quality services for the people of Tamworth and surrounding region.

If you have any questions about the fees, please refer to the “contact us” page.  We are happy to help.

We thank you for your co-operation and understanding.
